Most "best coffee in Adelaide" lists throw twenty names at you in no particular order and leave you to work out which ones are anywhere near you. This one's sorted by area instead — so if you're in the western suburbs, or up in the Hills, or stuck in the CBD, you can find the roasters on your doorstep first.

Western Suburbs
FINDON · HINDMARSH
The Grange Road corridor is as close as Adelaide gets to a roasting strip. If you're out west, these two are the easiest specialty coffee to reach.
Altura Coffee
253 Grange Rd, Findon
Adelaide's most established name on this list — roasting since 1999, family-owned, now with a roastery and cafe on Grange Road where you can watch the roast happen through glass while you drink a flat white. Italian-leaning blends that sit beautifully in milk.
Coffee in Common
Bacon St, Hindmarsh
A small-batch roastery and cafe in a sprawling industrial warehouse, run by Sean Do and Davide Cavuoto. Rotating single origins, three house blends, and — not that you asked — very good doughnuts.
Inner East
GLYNDE · ATHELSTONE
Just east of the city, two roasters with very different vintages: one long-established, one of the newer names worth watching.
1645 Coffee Roasters
Glynde
Family-run, named for the longitude of Adelaide, and about as local as it gets. Award-winning blends alongside single origins, roasted to extract well on home espresso machines. The reliable pick if you don't want to fuss with your grinder.
Elusive Coffee
Athelstone (roastery: Somerton Park)
Based in Athelstone, roasting weekly in small batches out at Somerton Park. Founder George roasts each coffee to suit it rather than to one house style — you'll often find him pouring it himself at markets like Tonsley. Clear, fruit-forward cups. Read the Elusive release feature →
Northern Suburbs
POORAKA
Charlie Black Coffee Co.
Pooraka
A newer name, founded 2020, running a proper small-batch setup with three roasters including a one-kilo machine for micro lots. Also home to a serious barista training facility. One the good cafes have started paying attention to.
Adelaide CBD

If you're in the city, you don't have to go far. Two of the roasters here have a CBD presence you can walk to.
My Kingdom For A Horse
Wright St, Adelaide CBD
A 120-seat licensed cafe with an on-site roastery in the city's south-west corner, roasting seasonally on a five-kilo Probat since 2015. Balanced, sweet espresso that works with dairy and nut milks, plus brighter filter roasts. Four CBD locations now.
Dawn Patrol Coffee (Rundle Mall)

The city outpost of a McLaren Vale roaster (see below). Handy if you want their fully-traceable coffee without the drive south.
Adelaide Hills & South

The Hills and the Fleurieu punch above their weight for coffee. Four roasters out here, and a couple of them started in a garage before they built anything.
Two Fish Coffee
Adelaide Hills

A female-owned boutique roastery that specifically prioritises female producers at origin — sourcing from women farmers and cooperatives where possible. Roast profiles that let origin character show. A clear sense of purpose behind every choice.
b3 Coffee
Blackwood (roastery: Somerton Park)
Started by Ben Laakmann on Blackwood's main street in 2016 so Hills locals could get quality beans without driving into the city. The roasting's since moved to a dedicated Somerton Park facility. Coffee, quality, community — and they seem to mean it.
Dawn Patrol Coffee
McLaren Vale (started in Kangarilla)
Dom Ossa and Nick Suggitt started Dawn Patrol in Kangarilla in 2014 and built a custom facility in the Fleurieu wine region. You can taste through their range cellar-door style in McLaren Vale, wine-tasting for coffee. Fully traceable since before that was a marketing term.

Monastery Coffee
Adelaide
Founded by three people from economics, finance and geophysics backgrounds, built entirely around traceability and provenance. Ranked Australia's top roaster by the International Coffee Expo. Filter-forward, and about as serious as sourcing gets short of flying to origin.
Kindred Coffee
Adelaide
Alex and David, 35+ years of coffee between them, started as nomad roasters renting shared space and now run two Probats of their own. "Brew Good. Do Good." Traceable back to a producer or washing station on most bags.
Peninsula Coffee
South Australia
A micro roastery focused on clean, expressive coffee and tight quality control — low volume means every batch gets more attention. One subscriber called it their favourite of everything they'd received over six months.
The honest part
Sorting by suburb is useful right up until it isn't. Here's the thing worth being straight about: for drinking great coffee at home, where a roaster is barely matters. Almost every roaster on this list roasts to order and ships across Australia, so a roaster in the Hills reaches your kitchen in the western suburbs in a day or two, just as fresh as one down the road.
Proximity matters if you want to visit — sit in the cafe, watch a roast, taste before you buy. For that, by all means start with the roasters nearest you. But if your goal is simply the best coffee in your cup on a Tuesday morning, the more useful sort isn't by suburb at all — it's by what you like to drink and how you brew it.
