The roastery

A roaster that would rather let the coffee talk

Monastery are not a loud business. A tagline, a set of values and a lot of coffee, and they would rather spend the energy on the last one.

The tagline is "Roasted by the mindful, for the inquisitive", and it is a fair description of the people it attracts. Monastery drinkers tend to already own a grinder and have opinions about it.

"We value the artisanal over the industrial and people over profits."

That is about as close as Monastery get to a manifesto. Most roasters would spin it out to eight hundred words. They leave it there.

Approach

How they roast

Monastery would rather roast than talk about roasting, and the roasting has done the talking for them. On 31 January 2018 the Australian Specialty Coffee Association named Adam Marley the top-ranked roaster in Australia. A national ranking, judged on roasting. That is a stronger signal than any paragraph about airflow ever is.

Get a bag of it in front of you and the coffee fills in the rest.

Common questions

Questions people actually ask

Where is Monastery Coffee roasted?

In Windsor Gardens, in Adelaide's north east.

What is Monastery Coffee known for?

Roasting, judged nationally. The Australian Specialty Coffee Association named Adam Marley the top-ranked roaster in Australia on 31 January 2018. How they work sums up in one line: the artisanal over the industrial, people over profits.

Can I get Monastery Coffee delivered?

Yes. Monastery comes through the Allways rotation, roasted to order and shipped free anywhere in Australia. You pick the subscription that matches how you drink coffee and it turns up fresh.

Will my coffee come ground for my brewer?

If you want it to. Tell us whether you are on espresso, filter, plunger or something else and we grind for that. Whole bean is there too if you already own a grinder, which, being a Monastery drinker, you probably do.

Why order Monastery Coffee through Allways instead of going direct?

If Monastery is the only coffee you ever want to drink, go direct and buy it from them. That is the honest answer. Allways is for the opposite kind of drinker: one subscription, a different independent South Australian roaster in each delivery, ground to how you brew, so you meet roasters you would never have got around to trying. Monastery is one of fifteen.
