The right amount of coffee is the amount your household will actually use. Start with your recipe and how many brews you make, rather than a generic “cups per bag” claim.
At 18g per brew, one coffee a day uses about 250g a fortnight. Two a day use about 500g. Four a day use about 1kg. Those are rounded starting points, before waste.
How much do you actually get through?
Count every coffee made at home, across everyone who drinks it. Then use the grams of dry coffee in your usual recipe.
For espresso, count doses rather than cups. One double shot split into two little cups is still one dose. For filter, count the whole batch and use the grams in that batch.
The starting example uses two brews a day at 18g each. Change it to match your recipe. The result excludes coffee used while dialling in, spills and guests.
of coffee for 14 days.
A 500g bag is close: about 13.9 days at this recipe, before dialling-in waste.
One person. Two people. A very busy coffee machine.
These examples all use 18g per brew. If your dose is different, use the calculator above.
| Daily household use | Exact amount | Nearest usual bag size |
|---|---|---|
| 1 brew a day | 252g | 250g |
| 2 brews a day | 504g | 500g |
| 3 brews a day | 756g | Between 500g and 1kg |
| 4 brews a day | 1,008g | 1kg |
Two adults having two coffees each is four brews a day. At 18g each, that is about 1kg per fortnight. It is not the same as a household making two coffees in total.
A 500g bag at two 18g brews a day lasts about 13.9 days. If you often use extra beans to dial in, have visitors or make more coffee on weekends, allow for that rather than treating a rounded estimate as a guarantee.
Filter coffee? Count the whole batch.
For a batch using 60g of coffee once a day, you need 840g over two weeks. A smaller 15g brew once a day uses 210g. The same calculation works for a plunger, AeroPress or cold brew: use the total dry coffee in each batch and the number of batches you actually make.

Running out?
Choose a larger size or shorten the delivery interval. Add a little room for dialling in rather than relying on every gram lasting exactly two weeks.
-
Bags stacking up?
Reduce the amount, extend the interval or skip a delivery. You do not need to keep the starting setup forever.

Different coffees in the house?
Work out how much of each you use. A decaf in the afternoon and a regular espresso in the morning might call for different amounts, rather than one large bag of either.
Allways’ ongoing subscriptions offer delivery every 2, 4 or 6 weeks. You can change size and frequency through your subscription portal. The calculator also includes a 30-day comparison for monthly gifts; a calendar month is not always four weeks.

Coffee quantity questions
How many cups are in a 250g bag?
It depends on the recipe. At 18g per brew, 250g makes about 13.9 brews; at 15g, about 16.7. A brew can make one cup or several, so dry coffee dose is the clearer comparison.
Is 500g enough for two people for two weeks?
At one 18g brew each per day, you need 504g over 14 days, before waste. A 500g bag is close. At two brews each per day, the household needs 1,008g, so about 1kg.
Is a monthly gift enough for their everyday coffee?
Check the amount. One 18g brew a day uses 540g in a 30-day month. A 250g monthly gift can be a tasting-sized addition rather than a full supply for every daily coffee.
Does the calculator choose my subscription?
No. It estimates dry coffee use. Check the actual product weights, choose your roast and grind, and allow for changes in your routine before selecting a plan.
