Altura Coffee:
Grange Road,
1999–Now

Twenty-seven years of small-batch roasting, family ownership, and the kind of quiet consistency that doesn't need to announce itself.

Altura Coffee roastery in Findon, Adelaide

Altura Coffee has been roasting in Adelaide since 1999. That's 27 years of small-batch obsession, family ownership, and the kind of quiet consistency that doesn't need to announce itself.

They started in Beverley. Now they're on Grange Road in Findon, roasting everything from espresso blends to washed African single origins to decaf that doesn't taste like punishment.

This week, four of their coffees land in the Allways rotation.

Altura Coffee blends

Grange Rd Espresso Blend

Altura's flagship blend has been around since day one. Medium roast. Three origins: Ethiopia, Honduras, Papua New Guinea.

Honey sweetness. Caramel and toffee depth. White chocolate in milk.

It's the kind of everyday espresso that works whether you're half-awake at 6am or dialling in a new grinder on Saturday afternoon. Smooth as espresso. Very happy in milk. Built for repetition without boredom.

Brew recipe18g in · 36g out · 30 seconds

Burundi — Kibingo Washing Station

Grown high in Kayanza. Fully washed Red Bourbon. Processed at Kibingo Washing Station for clarity and sweetness.

Bright berries up front. Cacao and honey through the middle. Black tea finish.

Here's the thing: this coffee works as filter or espresso. Altura roasted it with both in mind, and the two brew recipes reflect that flexibility.

As filter15g coffee · 250g water · 2:15 total time — clean, elegant, endlessly drinkable
As espresso18g in · 40g out · 27–30 seconds — berry-forward, silky, surprisingly good in milk if you're curious

One coffee. Two methods. No compromise either way.

Mountain Water Decaf — Mexico

Decaf gets a bad reputation. Mostly because most decaf tastes like the colour beige.

This one doesn't.

Mountain Water  process from Chiapas Mexico. Soft cocoa, dried fig, smooth crema.

It's the decaf you'll actually reach for after 3pm — not because you have to, but because it's genuinely good coffee that happens to be decaf.

Brew recipe20g in · 40g out · 28 seconds — increase the dose slightly. Decaf extracts differently, and the extra couple of grams help with body.

Wide Spectrum Roasting

Altura describes their roast style as “wide spectrum” — which just means they're not locked into one approach.

The espresso blend sits at a classic medium roast. The Burundi leans slightly lighter to preserve clarity and fruit. The decaf gets careful attention to keep sweetness intact through the process.

It's roasting that prioritises the coffee, not the aesthetic.

About the roaster

Family-Owned, Small-Batch, Since 1999

Twenty-seven years is a long time in specialty coffee. Altura's been at it since before “third wave” was a term people used in meetings.

Family-owned. Findon-based. Roasting in small batches with the kind of consistency that only comes from doing the same thing well, repeatedly, for nearly three decades. No hype. No rebrands every second year. Just excellent coffee, roasted with care.
