Why Light Roasted Coffee is Better for Your Health

If you’re on a journey to enjoy coffee while being mindful of your health, light roasted coffee might just be the perfect choice. While all coffee offers benefits, light roast coffee preserves more of its natural compounds, making it a healthier option. Here's 5 reasons to drink light roasted coffee

1. High Levels of Chlorogenic Acid—Just Like Green Tea

One of the key reasons light roast coffee is so healthy is its high content of chlorogenic acid (CGA). Chlorogenic acid is a powerful antioxidant that is also found in green tea, known for its anti-inflammatory and protective effects on the body. Studies show that CGA can help reduce blood pressure, support heart health, and improve overall wellness.

Light roasted coffee retains more chlorogenic acid than darker roasts because it undergoes less heat exposure during roasting. This means when you drink light roast coffee, you’re getting a cup packed with antioxidants similar to those in green tea, making it a powerful ally in your daily routine.

With our Single Origin Coffee Subscription, you can enjoy a fresh cup of light roast coffee that’s high in chlorogenic acid, offering both flavour and health benefits. It’s the perfect way to fuel your day with a clean, antioxidant-rich brew.

2. Lower Levels of Acrylamide

Acrylamide is a chemical that forms during the roasting process, and while it’s present in all roasted coffee, lighter roasts contain lower levels. Dark roasts tend to develop more acrylamide due to the longer roasting process. Acrylamide has been associated with certain health risks, so choosing light roast coffee can be a safer option for those concerned about limiting their intake.

3. Rich in Nutrients and Beneficial Compounds

Beyond chlorogenic acid, light roast coffee is rich in other beneficial compounds like polyphenols, which are known to support overall health. These compounds are more abundant in lighter roasts because they aren’t broken down by the longer, higher heat roasting process. That means light roast coffee is more nutrient-dense than its darker counterparts.

Our Single Origin Coffee Subscription curates a selection of light roasts from some of the best coffee-growing regions in the world, ensuring that you get the full range of nutrients and compounds with every cup.

4. Cleaner Energy Boost

Light roasted coffee typically contains more caffeine than dark roast, giving you a cleaner, longer-lasting energy boost. While dark roasts lose some caffeine during the longer roasting time, light roasts preserve more of this natural stimulant. The result is a smooth energy boost that helps you stay focused and alert, without the crash that sometimes comes from other caffeinated drinks.

Every bag you receive through our Single Origin Coffee Subscription is freshly roasted, offering you a bright and energizing brew perfect for starting your day right.

5. Gentler On The Stomach

One surprising benefit of light roast coffee is that it's often gentler on your stomach, particularly if you tend to drink coffee with milk. The delicate flavors of light roasts mean you're less likely to add milk or cream, which can wash out the bright notes of the coffee.

Many people experience digestive discomfort when consuming large amounts of lactose from milk, especially since most adults have some degree of lactose intolerance. By enjoying light roasted coffee without milk, you’re not only savouring its full flavour but also reducing your intake of dairy, which could be better for your digestion and overall gut health.

Our Single Origin Coffee Subscription makes it easy to enjoy a smooth, light roast that’s easier on your stomach while letting you fully experience the natural flavors of the coffee.
